Title tag is important HTML tag which exist in all HTML/XHTML documents to describe the content of the page. Title tag is visible to public only in web browser’s window tab. Title tag is written above the body tag and therefore not visible on the page. However search engine crawler can see it very well. Title tag is most important single tag from search engine optimization prospective. This tag is considered important by On page search engine optimizers. Search engine gets the idea about the page from the title tag and place it accordingly in search engine results. You can open the source of the page to see the title tag. For HTML validation it is a compulsory tag. Title tag is visible at four places.

In the browser toolbar

In list of favorites

In search engine results

In social media sharing

It is not sure that Google will show your title . In some case where Google thinks that this page should have some other title, it may rewrite and produce its own title to your webpage in search engine results.

It is also not easy to make an effective title of your page, as you have only 60-70 character to tell all about your page. The following thing you must take care while make a title tag of your website homepage and other pages.

Initial letters of all words used in title should be in Capital.

Title should not be less than 30 character.

Title length should be between 60-70 character including blank space.

Start the Title with main keyword ( only once) of your page

Try to use key phrases instead of keywords.

Title should be relevant and descriptive.

Avoid just keywords stuffing in title.

Do not repeat the same keyword or phrase.

Do not use the stop words in Title tag.

Mention the company name or brand at end of title.

Separate your company or brand name with hyphens (-) or pipes (|)

Create compelling title tag keeping in mind both search engines and users experience.

Consider Geo-Targeting for regional or local sites.

Unique title for each page of your website.

Avoid commas, special characters and overuse synonyms.

Write the title after you have finished the writing and optimization work of the page.

Do not copy the exact text from your page and put it as title.

Title tags has to be effective, readable, relevant, persuasive and descriptive,. Title should be short, start with main keywords, also include company or brand name. Title tag should be created both for user experience and search engine optimization. Meta tag optimization is not complete without this tag.

Google, as we all know likes to share information on few of the subjects which are having interest of Webmasters and SEO’s. Recently Google explained on types of Pure Web Spam and how it is being dealt by Google algorithm.

A new web page is launched by Google where you can see real live examples of pure spam pages; these screen shots are of those which have been removed from Google’s Search Index due to aggressive use of spam tactics like automatically-generated gibberish, cloaking, thin scraping contents from other sites, and intentionally violating Google’s Webmaster Guideline.

Here at SubmitShop, our research team tried to dig it more and reviewed latest screen shots of removed pages. We found that these also include those pages which were using hidden techniques which are not visible to users like Hidden text pages or scrapped product descriptions thin pages created for linking purpose only.

Google also explained other types of Spam where it uses combination of manual review and automatic computer algorithms. Some examples are:

Cloaking and/or sneaky redirects:
Type of spam which delivers or redirects different pages for search engines and actual users.

Hacked site (Malware or Hacked):
Type of spam being generated from hacked sites with malware or by inserting redirect codes. The sites are those which are hacked by poor scripting code or gaining access to passwords of FTP’s.

Scrapped OR Thin content with little or no added value:
Type of spam used to create pages by scrapping contents from other sites or by spinning the low quality contents.

Hidden text and/or keyword stuffing:
A method still being used by some black hat SEO’s with CSS div tags or by colour changing of text to hide it from users, but showing to search engines.

Pure Web Spam is the largest contributor of spam type in Google Index. Many people create pages with little or no content for acquiring links only, and if you see any SEO tools or techniques which assures you to create 1000’s of links within few minutes, you should try to avoid such methods. You should also avoid such SEO Companies which take help of Pure Spam methods to rank your website.

On Google Spam fighting page, it shows only 50 results and updated every hour, Due to the fact that no data of removed pages is being archived by Google, In market there are some tools to search such sites which Manually Penalized By Google, one example is a tool from Barry Schwartz which is keeping of records of all such pages and you can search at anytime for spammed removed pages from Google Index.

Google also considers following tactics as part of SPAM (But not part of pure Web Spam)

Cloaking and/or sneaky redirects

Unnatural links from a site

Hacked site

Spammy free hosts and dynamic DNS providers

Unnatural links to a site

Hidden text and/or keyword stuffing

Thin content with little or no added value

User-generated spam

Parked domains

You can use this tool by putting direct URL, by months or browse the complete index of removed pages.

As we all know that Google has been penalizing link buyers from long time for buying paid link to increase Page rank and influence search engines results, today Matt Cutts also cleared in blog post on Google Webmaster Central blog that they will be imposing penalty on websites selling links which also include newspaper websites or advertorial pages with embedded links.

As already mentioned of penalties on UK Newspapers which caused their Page Rank (Some of these even goggle to zero PR) and search engine rankings drop on large scale. Its also confirmed that Google also sending notification to these link selling sites and some of those confirmed as well.

Matt Cutts clearly stated the downfalls of selling links

“Please be wary if someone approaches you and wants to pay you for links or “advertorial” pages on your site that pass PageRank. Selling links (or entire advertorial pages with embedded links) that pass PageRank violates our quality guidelines, and Google does take action on such violations. The consequences for a linkselling site start with losing trust in Google’s search results, as well as reduction of the site’s visible PageRank in the Google Toolbar. The consequences can also include lower rankings for that site in Google’s search results.”

Google further advices for those who received such email notifications in webmaster tools to remove those paid links or use rel=”nofollow” attribute. You need to submit reconsideration request after removing all the paid links. Its also possible that in an extreme case, site selling links can be fully removed from Google’s search results.

Google adds Google+ Communities, same like those of Facebook groups, but more than those to provide engaging place for its users. From past communities like BBS, Discussion forums have been the standards for webmasters or end users to discuss, participate and solve the problems.

Google says that Google+ is growing as much as Facebook in terms of active users and if we combine all type of Google users, its much more than those of facebook users, may be Google is trying to bring all users at Google+, Vic Gundotra, Google’s senior VP of engineering announced on Official Google Blog post at Google which also says

Today Google+ is the fastest-growing network thingy ever. More than 500 million people have upgraded, 235 million are active across Google (+1′ing apps in Google Play, hanging out in Gmail, connecting with friends in Search…), and 135 million are active in just the stream.

So what it means for you as Google+ user and What’s so great about Google+ Communities

You can create public or private communities

Divide communities into niche or topic specific such as SEO, photography, Linux etc.

Option of moderator approval before new user can join the community

Create a set of guidelines for the community

Create categories and discussion topics

Start video hangouts with other community member

Create events for the group

Integration search, Gmail, Google Talk and YouTube

You can invite other members to Join the community

Defiantly they are not as powerful as those of discussion forums and bbs which have been the first choice for participating but still it is great additional feature introduced by Google and its much more powerful as compared to groups from Facebook or yahoo. Share you views about Google+ communities with us.

Google penguin update has given boost to contents and simultaneously there is tremendous increase in guest blog posting services. SEO industry consider guest blog post as safe and Matt Cutts Google spam team head also recommended guest blog posting if it is for sharing contents not just for taking links.

The question which is raised from time to time by the guest bloggers and blog publishers what should be the minimum words in guest blog which will considered as organic content by the search engines. or What minimum words articles will get more acceptance from guest blog publishers. The debate is resolved by John Mueller Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google Switzerland. According to John Mueller more important is quality, usefulness, uniqueness and originality of contents. He support by example that tweet of 140 words at Tiwtter is considered as good.

Googlebot doesn’t just count words on a page or in an article, even short articles can be very useful & compelling to users – Make sure that your content is really unique (not just rewritten, auto generated, etc) and of high-quality. Google Webmaster Help

I have written this post to draw the attention of Guest blog publishers or blog owners who demands for minimum of 800 word of blog post. If the contents are good less words will work.
